Stick It Down Tuesdays - August 2014

Let's Scrap DT Challenge #189

Busy month at Let's Scrap. July, thankfully it's the end of a quarter at work, it's one of the few months in a year when I could sign up for more stuff on crafting!  Today is my turn to host a challenge at Let's Scrap!
1. Use a Let's Scrap sketch, cannot be combined with all other challenges and no backdating is allowed
2. Your layout must contain must have at least 1 photo; up to 3 photos
3. Start your layout on a white/cream/very light colored cardstock
4. Must have A LOT of flowers and butterflies, min 3 each (stamp, punch, die cuts, embellishments, stencils, DIY ones, etc...)
5. Make it a colorful layout and you must have at least these 3 bright colors on your layout : Orange, Yellow and Green

I started with a white cardstock, did some stencil misting and left the negative space from the butterflies and stuck them elsewhere on the page. I translated the sketch as flipped with less prominent lines tonnes of misting/stenciling all over I added the fussy cut photo with some washi tapes.

Hello Monday. Today I'm playing at Use Your Stuff. This site is challenging you to use your stuff (as it says). Every Monday someone from the creative team would post a challenge that we hope will inspire you to use your stash to create. Let's Scrap NSD4 - Mixed Media Madness

There's a whole lot on going on Let's Scrap this whole month. We have challenges which are opened for the whole month. So come play along! Here's my take on Val's Mixed Media Madness NSD challenge which started on 1May over at Let's Scrap. The deal for this challenge is to use at least at three different media techniques. I have gesso, texture paste, stencils and inks. Let's Scrap DT Challenge 4-4-14

Here's my work for DT's challenge at Let's Scrap. Ada is hosting a challenge - handmade flowers on the layout/card. You can use die cuts or machines BUT it must be handmade. There also must be 5 and more on the layout/card. So I made 3 flowers from washi tapes and 2 flowers from cotton bandage! Yes cotton bandage from Watsons! Curled, tucked and sewed a little, added a little pearl to it and voila! A flower! I played with plenty inks tonight and ended up with very green fingers.I certainly had fun creating this layout though the process of creating the flowers were pretty slow (actually I took made one a day) and finally assembled the whole thing tonight. Random Layout - Moments Recorded March2014

I'm playing along at Moments Recorded challenge March2014. Stacy Koo is hosting this month and it's a photo inspiration challenge with 2 criteria - make a project or card or LO inspired by the cushion photo and must include butterflies. I interpreted the photo as a sketch, butterflies on top and I subbed the birdcage with my nest! Other than that it's the colors - I started off with a white cardstock and the most obvious stark black butterflies. Colors inspiration from the photo was mainly blue. I did a lot of random layers of stamping all over with some dots and 2 newsprint stamps. Most of the inks used were  Distress Inks. Using glaze medium I added the jute grass and cotton bandage to add some layers, before I went crazy with Dylusions. Finally I stamped some butterflies around and added the rubon title. It is certainly great having my scrapping mode back. I haven't been crafting productively until today, I'm so glad!

Random Layout - OUAS Feb Sketch

Here's my interpretation of the OUAS Feb sketch and the challenge is Totally addicted to... My answer as seen clearly would be BLACK. I was not crazy about black in my younger days but now most of my stuff are in black. The journaling consists of stickers from October Afternoon, the long sticker reads "People seem to get nostalgic about a lot of things they weren't so crazy about the first time round." I had used a family photo printed in black and white and did some inking over the photo background. The original photo had a light gray background and so I inked and made patches to make the photo less stark in gray. 

There is also a local challenge on Facebook group called Moments Recorded challenge hosted by Sophia Soh this month. The theme is Monotone Me. I chose Black and White and 2 other additional criteria journalling and Lace. I got black inky crazy this round. There is some cream popping off the page while the white is not entirely white but off white. There is lace stamping on the honeycomb which is not very obvious and there is some lace tucked behind the flower and photo too. Had fun creating this one and I had my fingers in black soot as I scrapped this piece after #1 went to school while I'm waiting to get ready to go to work. Now that my life is kind of changed stealing time to scrapping in the morning before going to work. Less night scrapping these days!

Let's Scrap DT Challenge

I'm back again for the 5th term at Let's Scrap and am hosting the 1st challenge this term.

Here's a photos inspired challenge. This is a scanned photo from my own collection taken in 2001, from The Small Cloister in Westminster Abbey. Do check out Let's Scrap for more details of the challenge and how other DT members interpreted the challenge.

I'm using a card sketch from 2-13-12 for this layout and plenty of Dylusions and Gelato. I go for the colors and vines (curly twine and thread) , water (dripping paint and water color effect) and fountain border (which I intepreted as a frame)

Here's my layout for CSI case #93. As usual it's a a pretty messy background work and I had fun having my fingers inked. My evidences include numbers,a shape inspired by propellers, stripes, plaid, or checked patterned, mixed media background and text print. Random Layout - CSI #91

Here's my take for CSI case #91. Evidences include birds, leaves, wet medium, stripes, and tearing. My testimony is based on  inspiration words: surprise, need, enjoy and also journal about something you enjoy every day. 

My layout is a very simple daily need (well at least for me!) - Breakie. I used the quote from Ali Edwards Technique Tuesday collections, reason being  Breakfast is the 1st meal of the day and important to me. Weekend breakfast at home is usually the time where I typically try out new food with my kids. This photo as shown is actually at the request of my eldest son. It was taken during one of our weekend breakfast at home. He is pretty 'creative' in his request at the breakfast. Anyway, on one particular morning, we had wanted to just spread jam or peanut butter for him. And he did know that there was avocado already soft from the outside and need to be eaten that very day. So he asked us to toast his bread, then spare the jam and peanut butter. To my surprise, he asked me to spread avocado onto his bread. True enough when I cut the avocado into half, it was already very ripe. So I dug up the centre and applied the mushy avocado onto his bread. That's it. He truly enjoyed this breakfast. I took a photo of it because I thought it was a moment for me, since I had never ever ate avocado as a bread spread before and I have never heard of anyone that I know of doing that; at least I know my son does!

I feel that the quotes from Ali Edwards does jive with what I had recorded here. The photo though is not perfect but it's the moment and recording what we went through in one of our days.

Let's Scrap DT Challange #171 & CSI #90

Here's my take on CSI's case #90 this week, coupled with Let's Scrap DT Challenge. For CSI challenge, my evidences include polka dot, stripes, white space, hearts, something transparent (washi tape) and two different alphabets. I decided to write something fun about Chloe, something different from the layouts that I did in the past about her. Check out my layout at CSI page for more details on the journaling.

I now know that Chloe is a powerful name for a very spirited woman - describes this furkid very well. She'll be remembered as a strong willed pup and of course her nice silky coat :)
 
I'm also playing along Let's Scrap DT Challenge #171 hosted by Hanne.  This challenge requires at least 3 layers behind the photo and at least one DIY flower, with reference to one of the tutorials on Let's Scrap. I had made a paper posie with Eniko Paper Posies tutorial. I truly enjoy making this layout as I used Halloween papers for this layout, but they don't scream that much Halloween on this layout. :)

Random Layout - Scrap Africa#21 + Skissedilla#225

Here's my take on Scrap Africa challenge#21  - to use washi tape and twine and coupled with Skissedilla sketch #225. I started off with some washi tapes, an old plastic card, had a few rounds of pouring of paint onto the card, turned the cardstock around and watched the paint dripped. Then I picked up drippy paint with plastic card from the base before they soak through and swipe it back onto the cardstock. There you go, I have a background and this is one great experiment how far I could go without stencils! Washi tapes kind of blended in in the background but you could see clearly a small blue tape just behind the cake. :) Last but not least I had I had added some stamping and twine to complete this layout.

Random Layout - CSI #88 & OUAS Sept sketch

Here's my take with CSI #88 palette and  OUAS Sept sketch challenge. I used all colors required in CSI palette. Evidences that I have includes floral pattern, ledger/notebook paper, clock, use pen/pencil, book pages and doodle. My testimony is to write about something you've learned. My title reads Lucky To Have You. Without you I wouldn't have known how to be a parent (well at least for the 1st time). Babies and children don't come with manual, I wish they do. Random Layout - CSI #87 & Skissedilla sketch#223

Here's my take on CSI case #87 this week with Skissedilla sketch #223. I had used all 5 colors required and my evidences includes map print, transportation accents, mist, word stickers/rub-ons and butterflies. My testimony is based on these 2 criteria - Spread your journaling so it wanders around your page and Inspiration words: wander, lost, direction. I had created a messy page for this with the title OK TO MESS UP. Simply because last year, my (then) 5years old was drawing butterflies to be pasted on clipboard for Teacher's Day gift. Well, we did a few clipboards. Before he started he said he wanted to draw one big butterfly. So then he proceeded on to draw a few butterflies and made them colorful. And he added what he said to be dragonflies too onto his drawing. I let him wonder and decide the choices of colors on the blend. My journaling reads, "Hey, I'm a newbie! I want to draw a butterfly, no, it would be many butterflies and make them big! Let's make it colorful, the the colors and make them pretty! There has to be dragonflies too and colorful. It's ok to be crooked"
