Random Art Journal - Moments Recorded Simply Simple

This photo which was cropped from one of the shots which I used for this layout. I'm so glad I didn't chuck it away! Well, I would call this leftover page which turned out as an art journal page. This is page is on my existing thrift shop sketch book from Daiso, which has been abandoned after I lay the scrap paper and gesso  for half a year or so. So sometime end of last year, I thought I could make use of it for leftover mists/inking work. I starts off this page with no intention of taking part in Moments Recorded Challenge, in fact the 2nd coat of this page with mists was already there when I did this. The condition of Moments Recorded to keep the creation flat. What I did was to add lacy stamp from Jenni Bowlin and  wood grain stamp Hero Arts; all rubons from October Afternoon mambo jumbo of fall/Christmas and a sticker from Thrift Shop.  Doodled a little here and there, TADA! Here's my creation for Moments Recorded Simply Simple.

Art Experiment - The outcome

I didn't have the chance to post this. Anyway, I did this last week and made no ammendments to it. Here is what it looks like since the day after till today... :)

Art experiment - Work in progress

 Work in progress - It's inky night, and for the 1st time in my life. I used my fingers to paint acrylic!


Supplies :
* Mists and sprinklers from OA Mary Mack, Hopscotch and Red Wagon; MR Eggplant purple; TA Teal heel; SC Custard
* MT stripe washi tape
* Acrylic colors + Gesso on the flowers and skies
* Some background stamps from TH
* TH distress ink Tea Dye, Pumice Stone and Forest Moss
* Texture paste, dabbed using ice cream stick
* SC Heirloom Blue for the drip on texture paste

I'll see how the whole thing looks like tomorrow morning and decide what to do next, I might mist more .Stay tuned!

Acrylic play

I took a scrap paper from Studio Calico Autumn Press collection which was sitting in my scrap file and pasted onto my art journal (of 3pages). Here's what I did on 27May2012
- Misted with TA Teal High and OA Sidewalk Miss Mary Mack
- Mixed a little yellow and red acrylic and stamped with Tim Holtz background stamp
- Used a plastic bottle to stamp some circular pattenrs onto the paper.. and here's the semi finished product on yesterday

What was done yesterday is now buried underneath all the add-ons today. Today, with a little washi, some acrylic paint and as usual I dabbed some TH stamps here. Added some heirloom gold perfect pearl to the sun too and there you have, what seems to be a meteorite hitting the rail tracks. So how do you intepret this?

 

** Conclusion I need to spend more time to master the skill to use texture paste

I did another piece tonight in about 2hours, after the kids went to lala-land. Tonight, I used some household items and didn't use stencil. The texture did look a little more textured at some parts, the final outcome is brighter than what I created yesterday. I also remembered to leave a 'whiter' space, it's meant for journaling :)

Couple of days ago, as I was rearranging some really really (decadesS) old music scores, there were a few stray sheets which were photo copied ones. I decided to just reuse them for the art journal. I mod-podgedtwo pages of the thrift shop sketch book tore the music score. I didn't quite like the the initial coverage of TH distress stain Antique Linen and TA French Vanilla, after I saw how the colors end up after drying.  I finally decided to just do it - CHANGE. Anyway I had the time yesterday because we stayed home with Shawn as he had spots on his legs and hands yesterday and was having fever, so we sent him to doctor. Thankfully it's not HFMD, it's just viral fever. While the man was busy going through tonnes of work phone calls on his off day, Shawn and I were busy with colors. He requested to paint. So he had his ME- time, I had my own ME-time, was in the yard spritzing away in a closed box.


I took out the some bottles and misted in this order - October Afternoon Lemon Drop, Studio Calico Custard and Estate Green. Splattered a little SC Overdue. While the colors are still wet, I took Stamper Anonymous Floral tattoos stamps with no acrylic block, did the stamping from the colors onto different parts of the paper and used a heat gun to dry the colors. Next up is OA Spruce Tin and Maya Road Eggplant purple (which look pretty dark!) I took some ink out from MR mist with paper towel to lessen the intensity. Using the same set of stamps I dab, dab, splat  and transferred onto  other sites of the paper. There we go there are some faint looking images all over the page. See that masking tape on the binder rings, it's meant to protect them. But I did a boo-boo I did one spray AFTER I removed it, so they got a little green stain on. :)

Ooo.. I recently bought texture paste and experimented with stencil on this page. Well, supposed to be butterflies but everything seemed so smudged after I lifted the stencil. It's ok to be imperfect. After the paste dried up, I used Perfect Pearls - Heirloom Gold and Pewter to brush over it and some other parts of the page to give some shine (more obvious in real life than in the photos below). Gesso was spread to create white space for sentiment stamping. The stamps used are Tim Holtz's Stampers Anonymous Nature's Moments. Distress inks were used the bird and flowers were added to the page. I certainly love these inks... except they are water based And the sentiment is also Mr Holtz's Stampers Anonymous Words for Thought.

I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Just need to play more with inks, paints and lay my hands more often on texture paste to create art :) I'm loving ART! And hey, this is from my kid (who spent 1/2hr doing his little project while I spent many hours on mine)
